Due to their organic nature, pearls are sensitive to acidic and alkaline substances. Therefore, it is important to preserve these precious objects for many years to come. Here are some dos and don’ts when it comes to pearl care.

✓ Put on your pearls last and remove them first.

✓ Wear your pearls often as leaving them in a container for too long will lead to dehydration.

✓ Store your pearls in a fabric-lined container.

✓ Wipe your pearls with a damp, soft cloth to remove oil and sweat.

✓ Have your pearls restrung annually by a professional jeweller.

✘ Wear your pearls when exercising or swimming.

✘ Let your pearls come into contact with acidic chemicals such as vinegar and lemon juice.

✘ Hang your pearls in an upright manner as this will stretch out the string and cause it to break.
